PROGRAMMING FOR STUDENT NEEDS: A STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP
As the number of students with special needs in the regular classroom increases, it is essential that teachers are supported in working with these students and their unique needs. This after school workshop will focus on developing student mental health awareness and strategies to support student mental health.
The PL Committee is pleased to welcome George Mantik as he takes us through strategies to deal with mental health issues, both as a classroom teacher and a daily occasional teacher.
Free resources are provided to each attendee. Register early as space is limited!
A light meal will be provided. Dependent Care subsidy available upon request.
Extra parking is available diagonally across the street at the “Big Bear” plaza.

The Equity and Social Justice Committee is hosing a safeTALK workshop. This workshop is supported by the Canadian Mental Health Association and is for community members to identify and engage people with thoughts of suicide and help them connect with further help and care. This 3 hour workshop teaches the attendee the 4 basic steps to recognize individuals with thoughts of suicide and connect them with help.
Each member who attends will receive a resource book, a wallet sized card and will also receive a certificate of completion. A light dinner will also be served.

ETFO’s GSA Symposium will provide opportunities for elementary educators to find out how to begin and maintain a GSA in their school and learn about LGBTQ community resources.

Join Mike Beetham as he presents
Inclusive Classrooms: Success for All!
This workshop will look at creating win-win situations in your classroom by utilizing the collective expertise in the session. The focus will be on creating learning communities that help each member be successful. Teachers will spend time reflecting on their current pedagogy and examine a wide vareity of classroom best practices. As well there will be time spent addressing the needs of the participants through an open-ended question and answer session.
This workshop will take place Monday May 4, 2015 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the WROTL Office (130 Highland Road East, Kitchener). A light meal will be served. Child care subsidy is available upon request.
