March 8, International Women’s Day.

Committees of the Occasional Teacher Local encourage women members to join colleagues in marking March 8, International Women’s Day.

The Political Action/Public Relations Committee and the Status of Women Committee are sponsoring a table at the Women’s Day event organized by the Waterloo Regional Labour Council.  This is a first-time event for the Labour Council, at which women members from a wide variety of Local unions will gather to celebrate women and the many roles they play in society.  Please consider joining us at this lunch time event.  There will be short presentations by women from our community, a nice buffet meal (served by several of our male Union activists!), raffle prizes, and many door prizes.  All proceeds will be given to women’s shelters and services in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.

When: Saturday, March 1, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: The Uniform Hall at 410 Wabanaki Road in Kitchener

The Status of Women Committee will be sponsoring a limited number of members to attend the Zonta Club of Waterloo Region’s Women’s Day Event.  This very popular event has been held for many years.  Janet Solberg, who works as the Senior Advisor for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, will be the guest speaker at this event.  A large number of community restaurants provide a lovely variety of appetizers for participants to enjoy.  There are several raffle packages as well.
When: Wednesday March 5 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Where: Waterloo Inn, King St., North, Waterloo
To register for either of these events, please contact Judy Cutts at jcutts@etfowatots.ca or by leaving a message at 519-571-0222 by Monday, February 24.  Names will be drawn by lot and successful members will be notified.  Whether you have attended many events, or none, in the past, or would like to learn more about agencies and services in the community please feel welcome to join your colleagues at these events.  There is no cost for participants apart from optional beverages at  the Zonta event and optional purchase of raffle tickets at both events.

WROTL Standing Committees for 2012-2013

Colleagues,
The information regarding signing up for WROTL Committees for 2012 -2013 appeared ‘wonky’ when it was sent out to members.  I apologize for that and trust that this will be much improved!

These are due on June 1.  Please also note that the deadline for the School of the Year nominations is also June 1.  Please take a minute to nominate a particularly welcoming school!
