Members who are receiving benefits from the ELHT/OTIP may have received a T4A in the mail. Premiums for optional life insurance are paid by the member so it is not a taxable benefit. However, life insurance is a taxable benefit when it’s paid for by your employer.

The ELHT (Employee Life and Health Trust) is reporting the 1x salary life premiums from November and December 2016. Funding for the ELHT benefits comes from the government so it is still the employer paying the premium.

We have also received word that OTIP has erroneously sent out T4A documents to members who are not currently enrolled in the ELHT. Your Local team has made both ETFO Provincial and OTIP aware of this error and we have been given assurance that communication will come out regarding this issue.
