Tim Horton’s Meet & Greet – Thursday, June 9 – Ottawa/Strasburg


Join us for the last Tim Horton’s Meet & Greet of the 2015/2016 school year!

Drop by for a coffee (or other drink) and a snack.  Bring any questions you have (LTO List hiring process, EI questions, etc) or just drop in to say hi!

We will be at the Tim Horton’s at Ottawa Street and Strasburg Rd on Thursday, June 9 between 3:45pm and 5:00pm (approximately).  Look for the WROTL sign.

Committee Registrations are now open!



Joining a WROTL Committee is a great way to get involved, meet new people and become knowledgeable about how your local works.  We are accepting applications for people interested in serving on the following committees:


  • Collective Bargaining:  To represent the local in Collective Bargaining with the WRDSB
  • Constitution & Bylaws:  To annually review the Local Constitution and Bylaws
  • Equity & Social Justice:  To educate members in issues related to equity and social justice
  • Member Development Fund:  To allocate funding for PL to the membership
  • Political Action/Public Relations:  To promote positive public relations within the membership and the community
  • Professional Learning: To organize PL activities for the membership
  • Status of Women:  To promote awareness of the issues affecting women and girls

Easy Connect Dedicated Cancellation Line

easy-connect-logoHuman Resource Services has set up a dedicated Board telephone extension for EasyConnect cancellations.

Effective immediately, employee’s cancelling a job for the current day should call the Education Centre:

(519-570-0003) extension 4292.
This extension will be dedicated to cancellations only.

The extension will be monitored daily by Bonnie Krone.  In Bonnie’s absence, the back up will monitor the extension to ensure jobs are cancelled in a timely manner.

For the remainder of June, Bonnie will monitor her extension, along with the new cancellation extension, to ensure no cancellations are missed.

There will be no change to the future dated cancellations process.  Employees should contact the school’s administration to cancel the job.

All other questions can be directed to ApplytoEducation’s customer service or Bonnie Krone at extension 4226.

Strawberry Social – June 23, 2016

It’s a great opportunity to connect and network with colleagues.

We will also be having the draw for the Chromebook (for anyone that attended any workshops this year)!




Summer Academy Course Registration Now Open!

ETFO’S Summer Academy 2016 is here!!  Registration is now open.  This year we have over 80 courses available with a special focus on Kindergarten, mathematics, and technology.

Each course includes many practical, classroom-ready strategies and time to collaborate and network with colleagues.

The member registration fee of $75 includes three full days of learning, collaborating and networking with colleagues. The fee provides you with lunch on site each day as well as a wide variety of useful handouts to support your planning for the fall. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  These  three-day professional learning courses are offered in partnership between locals and the provincial office throughout July and August. The Summer Academy registration site includes course descriptions and information about dates, times, and locations across the province.  These practical and dynamic courses fill up very quickly!

Please note that you cannot apply for EI until your last day of work (for most people that will be either June 29 or June 30).

Please be reminded that all Stat Holiday pay paid or payable for days in this period should be recorded on the ROE. If they are not, you will need to amend the ROEs when it is paid.

Spring/Summer Staffing for 2016/2017


  • June 9th    External Contracts & LTO Postings Open
  • June 15th    External Contract Posting Closes (4:30pm)
  • June 20-22 Central Placement Contracts/LTOs
  • June 29    Applicants will be notified, by the end of the day, to which Contract/LTO they have been placed in (for central placements only)
  • August 15th   Remaining LTOs Posted with interviews (closing August 19th

Please read the following carefully:


  • The June 9th posting will consist of all contract positions as well as LTOs of significance (Full year/full time LTO’s as well as LTO’s of 0.6 FTE or greater that are both full and partial school year) and will be posted only to those who are currently on the LTO List.
  • As requested by the local, the board will provide an updated LTO list that has been cross-referenced by seniority and experience.
  • Principals will interview for Specialty Contract & Specialty LTO positions (French Immersion & Congregated Spec Ed). The Contracts and Full Year/Full Time LTOs that are not specialty positions will be centrally placed by Human Resources, based on Seniority of applicants from the LTO list in accordance with Regulation 274.
  • Through discussions between the local and HR, OTs will be able to provide preference to the board. A short survery will be emailed to your waterworks email account (from Brian Driver).  Please have this survey filled out by the closing date of the LTO postings (June 15th).
  • Please note that there is a possibility of an OT on the LTO list being successful to an LTO specialty position and, being eligible for a contract they have also applied to. The Board will not stand in the way of someone being successful to a contract position, and therefore if an Occasional Teacher from the LTO list accepts a full year LTO Specialty position and also applies to Contract postings, and based on seniority is successful to a contract position they will allow the Occasional Teacher to abandon the LTO position for the contract. Should this happen, they will re-post the specialty LTO position in a subsequent posting in August .
  • In the event the first posting does not deplete the LTO list the second postings will be open to both LTO List and OT Roster Occasional Teachers with the understanding that the Occasional Teachers on the LTO List will receive preference to the position in accordance with Regulation 274. Similar to last year it is the expectation that qualified applicants will accept a position for which they have applied to. Once an Occasional Teacher has accepted a Long Term Assignment they may not abandon one Long Term Occasional assignment for another, even if it results in an increase in FTE.
