Hiring for 2015/2016 School Year / LTO List Update

2015-2016 Contracts/LTOs

contract permanentThe Waterloo Region District School Board has finalized the dates and process for the Contract and Long Term Occasional postings.

The first posting will go live on Apply To Education at Noon on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 for 5 working days, closing on June 23, 2015 at 4:30pm.

The first posting will consist of all Contract and Full Year/Full Time LTOs, and will be posted to the OTs who are currently on the LTO list.

Principals will interview for Specialty Contract & Specialty LTO positions (French Immersion & Congregated Spec Ed), and provide the results to Human Resources no later than 4pm, Friday June 26, 2015. The Contracts and Full Year/Full Time LTOs that are not specialty positions will be centrally placed by Human Resources, based on Seniority of applicants from the LTO list in accordance with Regulation 274 by June 29, 2015 (Similar to the placement process we followed last year). OTs will be notified the week of June 29, 2015 to confirm where and to what position they were placed.

Please note that there is a possibility of an OT on the LTO list being successful to an LTO specialty position and, being eligible for a contract they have also applied to. The Board will not stand in the way of someone being successful to a contract position, and therefore if an Occasional Teacher from the LTO list accepts a full year LTO Specialty position and also applies to Contract postings, and based on seniority is successful to a contract position we will allow the Occasional Teacher to abandon the LTO position for the contract. Should this happen, we will re-post the specialty LTO position in a subsequent posting in August 2015.

Our prediction is the above process will exhaust the current LTO list (approx. 100 people). As a result, the remaining second and third postings will be posted to the OT Roster.

The second posting will go live at Noon on June 30th and close on July 7th at 4:30pm.

The third posting will go live at Noon on August 17th and close August 21st at 4:30pm. In the event the first posting does not deplete the LTO list the second and third postings will be open to both LTO list and OT Roster Occasional Teachers with the understanding that the Occasional Teachers on the LTO list will receive preference to the position in accordance with Regulation 274. Similar to last year it is the expectation that qualified applicants will accept a position for which they have applied to. Once an Occasional Teacher has accepted a Long Term Assignment they may not abandon one Long Term Occasional assignment for another, even if it results in an increase in FTE.

LTO List Announcement

A Memorandum of Settlement between the Waterloo Region District School Board and the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers’ Local has been reached regarding the opening of the LTO list.

Occasional Teachers not currently on the LTO list that have been in a LTO position during the 2014-2015 school year for 170 (or greater) instructional days and have received a successful LTO evaluation will be placed on the Elementary LTO List effective September 1, 2015.

No later than November 30th, 2015 the Board will post and allow all OTs the opportunity to interview and be placed onto the LTO list provided the OT has been on the Board’s OT Roster for 10 months and has taught as an occasional teacher in one or more schools of the board for at least 20 full days during a 10-month period that is within the 5 years immediately preceding the day the application is submitted.

Interviews for the LTO list will occur annually.
