The last week of school is upon us! Summer means many different things to a lot of people, but especially for Occasional Teachers. Some will be furiously applying to Contract and LTO positions in hopes of obtaining something concrete for September, others may be actively seeking a summer job to simply make ends meet. As seasonal workers, we are often eligible for employment insurance and I encourage you to apply if you meet the requirements (the code is on our website). Wherever your summer takes you, I wish it to be productive and most importantly, re-energizing for the 2015-2016 school year. I would like to personally thank the membership for their support during this year, it has not been without it’s challenges and I am thrilled to represent again for 2015-2017. A special thanks to the elected delegates and alternate who will be volunteering their time to represent the membership at the ETFO AGM in August. Thank you to Angela Duquette, Marsha Cober, Judy Cutts, Mary Karchemny,and Laura Schilling. I look forward to working with all of you to make sure that the WROTL voice is heard. A special thank you to Angelo Volpini who will be attending as an observer and assistant campaign manager. I’m not sure what next September will bring us, however, I do suspect that we will not see much movement during the summer months. This local will continue to lobby those that can make changes and I encourage members to actively monitor their communications from both the local and provincial office. The local office will begin summer hours at the end of this week and will officially be back to full time on August 31st. During summer hours the best way to contact the local is through e-mail. These 40 three-day professional learning courses are offered in partnership between locals and the provincial office throughout July and August. The Summer Academyregistration site includes course descriptions and information about dates, times, and locations across the province. Be sure to check it out and choose a course or two for you. These practical and dynamic courses fill up very quickly!

Please note that those not on the LTO list will be able to apply as of June 30th. You will not be able to see the postings on Apply to Education until then. Postings can be viewed through waterworks under “Staff Opportunities.”
Also remember that you no longer need to search for the jobs on Apply to Education. They are listed under the heading “Occasional Employees” and “View Openings“

Thank you to all the members who sent in nominations for School of the Year. We had 64 nominations this year! Although it was a very tight race, I am happy to announce that Queensmount Public School has been selected! Queensmount will be presented with a plaque and cake on the last day of school.
“The admin, secretaries, staff, and students always make you feel welcome. Staff is always willing to assist if you have questions. The programs the staff are working with are innovative and the students really seem to enjoy the learning environment at QPS.”
