And your 2015/2016 Executive is…

We had a very successful Spring General Meeting last night at the Contestoga Place.  All of the proposed amendments to the WROTL Constitution were passed (see below).

We also elected our new Executive team for 2015/2016. Congratulations to the following members:

We recognized the following retired members for their many years of excellent service with us:

  • Stephanie Hunsberger: Stephanie has been an OT for 35 years and is looking forward to spending more time with her five adorable grandchildren.
  • Becky Blackburn: Becky join the Waterloo Occasional Teachers in 1991 and spent 24 wonderful years as an OT, and is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren.
  • Susan Gibbons: Susan taught full time for 5 years before leaving to parent her children. She returned as an OT and spent 22 years with us until she retired last fall. She named ETFO Occasional Teach of the Year in 2002. Susan is looking forward to spending more time with her two granddaughters.

Proposed Amendments to the WROTL Constitution & Bylaws

Proposed Amendment Current Language
1. That ARTICLE VI – LOCAL ORGANIZATION, Section 1 – Local Executive, subsection 6.1.1 be amended by substitution:1. The Local Executive shall include the following positions::a. President;b. Immediate Past President (may choose to continue to serve on the Executive for a one-year term immediately following the conclusion of their presidential term);c. First Vice President;
d. Second Vice President;
e. Chief Negotiator;
f. Treasurer;
g. Communications’ Officer/ Secretary;
h. Executive Members-at-large (maximum of three (3)); and
i. A non-voting member from the Waterloo Region Teachers’ Local.

3) That ARTICLE VI – LOCAL ORGANIZATION, Section 2 – Committees, subsection 6.2.3 be amended by substitution:6.2.3 Members shall be appointed to Standing Committees by the Executive for a one-year term. In order to be appointed as chair of a committee, the member must have served at least one year on that committee.Members may apply to serve on the same or other committee(s) in subsequent years. 3) ARTICLE VI – LOCAL ORGANIZATION, Section 2 – Committees, subsection 6.2.3:Members shall be appointed to Standing Committees by the Executive for a one-year term. Members may apply to serve on the same or other committee(s) in subsequent years.
4) That ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION shall be amended as follows:12.1 Proposed amendments to the Local Constitution must be submitted to the Executive a minimum of thirty (30) calendar days prior to the Local Annual Meeting or Local General Meeting. 4) ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION shall be amended as follows:12.1 Proposed amendments to the Local Constitution must be submitted to the Executive a minimum of forty-five (45) calendar days prior to the Local Annual Meeting or Local General Meeting.
5) That ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION, subsection 12.2 be amended by the addition of the phrase, or Local General Meeting”, following the phrase “Local Annual Meeting”. 5) ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION, subsection 12.2: The Executive shall publish all proposed amendments to the general membership at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the Local Annual Meeting.
6) That ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION, subsection 12.3 be amended by the addition of the phrase, or Local General Meeting, following the phrase “Local Annual Meeting”. 6) ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION, subsection 12.3: The Constitution shall be amended if 60% of the members present at the Local Annual Meeting vote in favour of the proposed amendment.
7) That ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION be amended by the deletion of subsection 12.4. 7) ARTICLE XII – AMENDMENTS TO THE LOCAL CONSTITUTION, subsection 12. 4: Proposed interim amendments to the Constitution can be made at the Fall Meeting with at least fourteen (14) calendar days prior notice to the general membership, and provided that they have been submitted, in writing,  to the Executive at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to the Fall Meeting. Formal approval of the interim motions must occur at the next Local Annual meeting.
8) That ARTICLE XIV-FINANCES, subsection 14.7, be amended by the addition of the following phrase at the end of the first sentence, “…contingent upon full reimbursement by the provincial ETFO office. 8) ARTICLE XIV-FINANCES, subsection 14.7,: The President of the Local shall receive an annual salary that is equal to the maximum grid salary level, A4, Step 10.This salary shall be paid through the Waterloo Region District School Board and reimbursed by the ETFO Provincial office. The effective date is September 1, 2014.
9) That BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 1 – Executive, subsection 1.1.13 be amended by substitution:Confirm that the three signing officers of the Local will be the President, First Vice President, and Treasurer.” 9) BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 1 – Executive, subsection 1.1.13:“Appoint at least three (3) signing officers of the Local .
10) That Bylaw I, Section 1- Duties of the Executive, subsection 1.1.18 be amended by the addition of the phrase, “… and work in conjunction with the President to organize these meetings.” 10) Bylaw I, Section 1- Duties of the Executive, subsection 1.1.18 : determine the location and time of a minimum of two general meetings, (one by October 31, the other by May 31)
11) That BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 3 – Duties of the First Vice President, subsection 1.3.4 be amended by deletion of, and Professional Learning”. 11) BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 3 – Duties of the First Vice President, subsection 1.3.4, “to be a member of the following Standing  Committees : Budget, Collective Bargaining, EOT, Federation Annual Meeting,  and Professional Learning”.
12) That BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 4 – Duties of the Second Vice President, subsection 1.4.2 be amended by deletion of, and Equity and Social Justice”. 12) BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 4 – Duties of the Second Vice President, subsection 1.4.2: to be a member of the following Standing Committees: Constitution & Bylaws, Federation Annual General Meeting, and Equity and Social Justice”.
13) That BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 4 – Duties of the Second Vice President, subsection 1.4.3 be amended by deletion. 13) BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 4 – Duties of the Second Vice President, subsection 1.4.3, to work in conjunction with the President to organize the general membership meetings.
14) That BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 7 – Duties of the Communications’ Officer, be amended by the addition of the contents of BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 8 – Duties of the Secretary. 14) BYLAW 1 – DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE, Section 7 – Duties of the Communications’ Officer : currently the duties of the Secretary are done by the Secretary and the duties of the Communications’ Officer are done by the Communications’ Officer.
