Spring AGM Invitation and Call for Nominations

Hello Colleagues,

Please find a link to our Spring 2014 Annual General Meeting invitation.

We want to encourage as many members as possible to attend this meeting. Our executive for 2014/2015 will be elected at this meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at the Conestoga Place on 110 Manitou Drive.

Business 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Executive, Committee and Financial Reports
Election of 2014/2015 Executive
Amendments to the Constitution
Election of Delegates to the ETFO Provincial AGM
Presentation of draft budget

Dinner starts at 7:00 p.m.

Delicious white and dark turkey sided with home-style stuffing.
Mashed potatoes covered in gravy and a side of garden blend vegetables
topped with cheese sauce. Complimented with coleslaw salad and dinner rolls.
Selection of dessert cakes, pies, coffee and tea.
Special dietary options available by request

 

All members are welcome to attend the business portion of the meeting. There is no charge for the dinner but we request a deposit cheque, Paypal or cash payment of $20.00 to hold your dinner reservation. Please make cheques payable to Waterloo Region OT Local. Your payment will be returned to you upon attendance, but you must register! Cheques or cash must be received by May 6.

Call for Nominations

Notice to all members,

Article IX Section 2.1 of the Constitution of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers’ Local directs us to notify all members of the request for nominations for the election to positions on the Executive of the Local at least 30 days prior to the Local Annual General Meeting. The ‘Duties of the Elected Positions’ information and the nomination form are attached below.

We encourage all members to consider standing for a position on the executive.
An unsuccessful candidate may seek another position on the Executive for which the member is eligible, to a maximum of two additional positions.

Duties of Elected Positions

PRESIDENT
• Conduct the day-to-day business of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teachers’ Local
• Chair monthly Executive meetings
• Represent the Local at other ETFO functions and Board Committees
• Ex-Officio member on all WROT Local Committees
• Liaise with ETFO Provincial Office – attend workshops/conferences
• Liaise with ETFO Teachers’ and DECE Locals, non-voting member of ETFO-WRTL Executive meetings
• Must have a minimum of one year experience on the Local Executive immediately prior to nomination.
• Time commitment: Minimum 5 days a week, some evenings, 2 weekends a year and August AGM.
• Compensation: up to 194 days per year, paid by ETFO Provincial, at grid rate.

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT:
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• President’s designate as requested
• Member of Budget, Collective Bargaining, Elementary Occasional Teacher/Management , Federation Annual Meeting and Professional Learning Committees
• Attend ETFO AGM in August

SECOND VICE PRESIDENT:
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• President’s designate as requested
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• Member of Constitution and Bylaws, Federation Annual Meeting, Equity and Social Justice Committees

CHIEF NEGOTIATOR:
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• Member and chair of Collective Bargaining Committee
• Member and recording secretary of the EOT/Management Committee
• To report to Executive and members, as requested, on the work of the CB Committee regarding negotiations

TREASURER:
• Attend Executive meetings and present Treasurer’s reports on a monthly basis
• Conduct the financial business of the Local
• Chair of the Budget Committee

COMMUNICATIONS’ OFFICER:
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• Update website
• Facilitate electronic communications with members
• Member of the Political Action/Public Relations Committee

SECRETARY:
• Attend monthly Executive Meetings and general membership meetings
• Record and distribute minutes of meetings
EXECUTIVE MEMBERS: (maximum of three)
• Attend monthly Executive meetings
• Membership on one Standing Committee

JOINT HEALTH & SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE: (not an Executive Officer)
• Attend monthly JHSC meetings at WRDSB Office
• Participate in Workplace Audits and Certification Training
• Report to members regarding their rights and responsibilities re: Health and Safety
• Release time paid by WRDSB

Notice to all members,

We will be electing the WROT Local Delegates to the ETFO Annual Meeting at our Local Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. The ETFO Annual Meeting for 2014 is being held at the Toronto Westin Harbour Castle Hotel from August 11 – 14, 2014. We are allowed to send 5 delegates and we take 2 alternates. All expenses, accommodations, meals, travel, and dependent care, are covered by the Provincial office and our Local office.
If the required number of nominations for the positions is not received by the deadline date, then the position(s) will be declared open and nominations will be invited from the floor of the Local AGM. All candidates may have one minute to address the members at the Local AGM.
The President and First Vice-president are identified as being delegates under our Bylaws. As such, the election of the Delegates will be held following the election of our executive at the Local AGM.

 

Expectations of Nominees for Delegates and Alternates for the Federation Annual Meeting:

• Interest in the workings of the Federation
• Willingness to participate in the AGM and to share that experience with others as called upon
• Availability to attend the meeting in Toronto from August 11 – 14, 2014, and one meeting to be held in June to discuss the resolutions and the logistics of attending the meeting
