On behalf of the board I am sending out a request for participation in providing feedback on the action-based commitments outlined in this document. I encourage many of you to apply so that we can be involved in the hiring practices of our board.
Fair, Inclusive and Equitable Hiring Practices
Call for Participation
On October 22, 2013, Waterloo Region District School Board released the document “Moving Forward: Building an Inclusive Workforce”. This document sets out our vision for an inclusive workforce and workplace. It proposes an action plan blueprint reflecting our system’s core values and commitment to fair, inclusive and equitable hiring practices.
The Hiring Practices Steering Team is seeking feedback on the action-based commitments as outlined in the document. While this initiative will inform all employees of WRDSB, the current task focuses on education staff. We are looking for board employee volunteers to participate in focus group consultations based on the information in the document.
We anticipate participation from representatives of the following groups:
- Administration – Secondary School Principals Association (SSPA), Secondary School Vice Principals Association (SSVPA) and Waterloo Region Elementary Administrators (WREA)
- Teachers – Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF), currently teaching, both contract and LTO.
- OT Teachers – elementary and secondary
Participants will need to be available either December 11, or December 12, 2013, and have transportation to the Education Centre. Focus groups will run between 9:00 and 5:00. There is some limited OT funding available if necessary.
Interested parties are asked to submit their names to Pat Pietrek by email at email@example.com or through Waterworks. We will randomly select participants for the groups from the names submitted. Each participant will be provided a copy of the document and focus group questions and will be asked to review the material in preparation for the meeting. Persons expressing interest in participating, but not selected to a focus group will be provided with the information and the opportunity to respond electronically.
Due to the tight time lines for this consultation, names must be submitted on or before 4:00 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2013.
